I am spending my June taking a couple classes to towards my degree. (Not by choice… they are only offered in Summer)
No of my classes is covering Tier III Reading Interventions for RTI (Response to Intervention). We are studying interventions to help children who struggle with the 5 areas of reading.
This Sunday we are going to a three day conference for the Texas branch of CEC (Council for Exceptional Children). Sunday afternoon, at the pre-conference, they are having a few lectures. I know which one I am going to attend already!
When we get back to class on Wednesday, we will be hosting a reading camp as part of our Summer classes. Struggling readers from the surrounding school will be coming to our camp for us to practice our strategies. We will be administering assessments and picking our own interventions to try to help.
We only have them for 7 days (2 hours each), so our goal is not to make huge gains. Instead our goals are to get comfortable with implementing the interventions and assessments. I think that the presenters at the conference will be a great help, and I can’t wait to get started!
